I am a state of California civil servant with over 18 years of management experience in both public and private sectors. Proud parent of district alumnus and strongly believe that better childhood education produces better citizens.
I have passion for education, not only for myself (Masters in Business Administration) and my family (wife has a Bachelors Degree in Arts, our son is a junior in University of California, Berkeley), but for all in our district and our state. I am a genuine and honest man, a good husband and father, a responsible parent, and a community organizer. My professional career is successful, solid and impeccable.
I am confident that I can handle the difficult situations guided by my experience, knowledge, open-mindedness, and eye for detail.

It looks like you have no personal agenda here. It is good though. Wonder what motivates you to run for the school board? Kevin Smith, Rancho Cordova
Mr. Smith,
Thank you for making that observation because you make a good point – I am running because of my passion for education, not because of a personal agenda. During my life I have been privileged with the opportunity to experience three different educational environments in three different countries: India, the United States, and Singapore. This has allowed me to study the advantages and disadvantages of different systems, and I believe it has also given me unique insight into what we can improve in our District. I’ve spent the last 11 years getting to know California’s educational system, especially FCUSD, and my son – now in his junior year at UC Berkeley – is a graduate of Folsom High School. I have firsthand knowledge of the issues students and parents face. As a parent I’ve worked hard to create smart strategies that allowed us to overcome those barriers, and I am running because I know that, as a member of the School Board, I can improve our District by giving voice to what I’ve learned.
Thank you,
Kumar Kalagara
